President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo introduced herself to the public with much confidence and grace. She started off her speech by pronouncing and describing her plans for the Philippines and how she will further develop our economy. She announced that the budget has been balanced and investments for the betterment of the country have been made and that by 2010, the Philippines will be well on its way to becoming a strong nation.

As a young and growing individual, I am eager to witness and experience theses proclamations of strong institutions in the future our Madame President has promised us. I am excited to see the results of the investments she has made namely in the human and physical infrastructure. She invested billions of the government’s money in them and it would be highly unsatisfactory if it would produce fruitless results.

By investing in these infrastructures, she proclaimed that business confidence would increase and about a million jobs a year would come to the Philippines. The medicinal and educational institutions would also become more proficient and terrorism and the abuses of human rights would be put to a stop.

These statements, though appealing, are achievements to be made in the future but now I want to talk about what our president has accomplished and how it has helped improve our state or how it hasn’t.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo unveiled to the world “The Super Regions” and this consists of Mindanao, Central
Philippines, North Luzon Agribusiness Quadrangle, Luzon Urban Beltway and the Cyber Corridor. Its main purpose is to divert developmental concentration on Metro Manila, namely to Mindanao because it has forever been our country’s food basket.

Many movements have been made to help establish a better agricultural system. Take for example, the farm-to-market roads. They have been extremely helpful in cutting the costs of bringing products...
