Monroe Park Campus
I went to Monroe Park at the VCU campus. I pass it everyday on my way to my home, but last Thursday I observed few things I would not realize if I did not walk there with a partner for a while and watched everything carefully. I could not help but notice the shape of the park and how complicated it is. All the ways are crossing each other. A large group of people was setting with each other, talking in a language I could not understand, some of them were eating, and the others were just laughing. My partner, Richi, and I tried to approach them and talk to them, but they were talking and so into each other, so we did not want to bother them. On the left side of those people, there was a person sleeping under a sign saying "NO PARKING!" Another couple were sleeping and holding each other, and it made me remember all the people I loved and the good memories I have for them. Few people were setting around the fountain in the middle having their lunch, and one of them was playing guitar, my professor. I saw tall trees around the park giving shadows to people to set and enjoy their times. I found it a stereotyping when all these people were reading under the trees, singing, picnicking, and sleeping under large trees. It was exactly like the people I see in movies and read about them. I saw three statutes in Monroe Park. The first one was for Williams Carter Wickham, who was the Vice President of the C&O railroad. The second one was for Joseph Bryan. The last one was a memorial of General Fitzhugh Lee's efforts as Commander of the seventh Army Corps between 1898 and 1899. The three statues are gifted. There were trashcans everywhere around the park even though the park itself was not that clean. Flowers were colorful in certain places as the ones across the church. It was a big park full of trees, flowers, and squirrels !
