Benefits of working as a team
Working with a team has both positive benefits as well as negative ones, in this paper this student will explain both and hopefully convince the reader that the positive benefits outweigh the negatives. From the time we are born, we are born into a team, sometimes we are performing team work and not even know it. Everything that one does has a cause and an effect. In the work place if an employee makes a mistake in one department, that mistake will throw things off balance in another department.
The benefits of team work according to DeJanasz−Dowd−Schneider: Interpersonal Skills in Organizations, Chapter 15 are: “Increased productivity, increased creativity, higher quality decisions, improved processes, global competitiveness, increased quality, improved communication and reduced turnover and absenteeism and increased employee morale”. These benefits are because when more than individual are working on a school assignment or work assignment the faster they can get the work done and the better the quality of the work will be. In teams because there are more than one person, where one has weaknesses another can have strengths and therefore help each other out.
The key of a successful team is communication and that each member of the team knows exactly what their role is. If the chain of communication is lost or broken then the team cannot perform to it’s full capacity. The team must be able to speak to each other openly but respectfully and be able to intervene if another member starts to slack of or the work productivity is not what it should be.
There are 4 different types of teams: Cross-functional teams, Self managed teams, Task force and Process improvement teams.
