The Hero More Heroic
(Odysseus vs. Moses)
By Abe Brittain
Both live long,
Both live to the fullest.
Average can’t compete,
When life’s at it’s truest.
Born with qualities,
That all can embrace.
Adventures long and far,
Are to one mans taste.
The other prefers,
A life not damned.
With what He says,
“I am who I am”.
Born for greatness,
Born to lead.
Born for glory,
Born to achieve.
Two perceptions
Written in pages,
Shows a man as servant,
But another shows greatness.
Yet both show ability
But under controversy,
One by haste
And quick decisions.
One by faith
And God sent missions.
Both are seen as heroic
In character and manner,
But written by a poet
This character is grander
In more ways than one
Is more critical
And could ridicule
The chosen Amrams’ Son.
His struggle for life
Is much more inspiring
Than that of a servant,
Once lost but prudent,
Who turned to God,
And became his student.
The son of Laertes
Was aching for family,
And would have killed Hades
Just for Penelope.
He did not seek
To please an Almighty,
But with grace and fighting,
He wove a tale tightly,
‘Till the Almighty’s watched him.
Now he has a tale
Of emotions and anguish,
That no book can pale,
Or hope to vanquish.
He is much more heroic,
Compared to Moses.
Laertes’s sons’ life
Was far more hopeless
Filled with grief and strife.
Yet Laertes’s son
Bested every foe.
He fought through it all,
Climbed back from his fall,
Stood strong and stood tall,
And thwarted deaths call.
The one by haste
And quick decisions
Did not waste
His home-bound vision
So which defines a hero?
Ill just tell you this
Odysseus
Defines this term best.
