Submitted by vicislegend on July 15, 2008

In The Day After Tomorrow (2004) by Roland Emmerich the time is today and Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) is a paleoclimatologist for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). What Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) discovers in Antarctica is startling. He concludes that the possibility of another ice age is in Earth’s near future if society keeps using fossil fuels at the current rates. The effect of this global warming would cause a new ice age and devastate the entire Earth and its inhabitants. But amongst the hustle and bustle of modern society Jack has a difficult time convincing governments to act on the situation. Jack must overcome frustrations and the possibility of loosing his job and integrity to save the world. He also is usually busy with work and does not get a lot of time with his son and is always running late to his events. But he must get to his son in New York, which is being taken over by a new ice age. In a short amount of time Jack’s theories will prove to be correct. Presented with this global threat Jack makes many ethical decisions against the will of others and risks everything he has to save the world.
Jack is faced with losing all credibility, integrity, and income if his theories are wrong. Jack’s theories are not taken with any value. People and governments are unwilling to sacrifice the economy for the safety of the environment. Most believe if his theories were true that it would happen in a very long time and show no concern now. But Jack knows that all the emissions from fossil fuels can trigger a horrible series of events much sooner then most believe. But Jack makes ethical decisions in favor of the security of the world and disregards what colleague’s tell him. His boss tries to persuade him that maybe his data is incorrect and tells to stop pestering the Vice-president, Raymond Becker (Kenneth Welsh). But Jack persists and puts his credibility, integrity, and income on the line to save the world.
