Good Sport, founded by ex- basketball star Jason Poole has a company that produces various kinds of fitness equipment. The kinds of equipment are bikes, steppers, rowers and treadmills. In the past four years, the hospitals used the equipment also. Due to Good Sports success, the company grew and was located in other states, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Clubs, Hotels and homes were buying the products as well. The Chief Executive
Officer, Marvin Wallace moved the company onward to a successful business.
Organizational Structure
The organizational structure of Good Sport was similar to centralization because top management made the decisions. “Centralization means that formal decision-making authority is held by a small group of people, typically those at the top of the organizational hierarchy. Most organizations begin with centralized structures, as the founder makes most of the decisions and tries to direct the business toward his or her vision.” (McShane & Von Glinow, 2005). The company formed a tall structure with narrow span control, “The size of an organization’s hierarchy depends on both the average span of control and the number of people employed by the organization. As shown in Exhibit 15.2, a tall structure has many hierarchical levels, each with a relatively narrow span of control, whereas a flat structure has few levels, each with a wide span of control.” (McShane & Von Glinow, 2005).
Organizational Culture
The sales culture Good Sport had was an informal work culture. The sales department enjoyed meeting outside the workplace to socialize among each other. They enjoyed working alone without outside involvement. The sales department did not want to be ruled by others, they
