Day after day we go about our routinary lives We wake up, prepare ourselves for the day, have breakfast, or not, go to work or school, go about what you do, go home, clean up, sleep and wait for the day ahead where you’d do just about the same thing. Pausing a moment from our busy life and shifting our focus to the things we use, who would ever think that our blankets would in the future be encased in glass and put up in a museum? Did you ever think that your alarm clock would ever be looked at with so much awe? How about the utensils you used, who would think they’d be so called art? The people of old Greece didn’t know that the statues of their gods would be highly priced nowadays. Michaelangelo didn’t know that the ceiling of the Sistine chapel would be venerated with so much wonder while he was painting it. Generally, objects that we consider art today may have just been a common thing back then.

Art as I quote from the reading is an invention of the modern era. It consists of the objects created by pre-modern people, recognized by our culture as art. We are the ones who determine which is art and which is crap. On what basis do we determine art? People tend to think that something aesthetic is worth defining art. Art should be beautiful and pleasing to the eyes. But aesthetics is subjective. No one thing of beauty would be able to please everyone. Others would say that art is a form of expression of the artist. It should be able to infect the audience. This matter is again subjective. I say art is both aesthetics and expression. It is both form and content.

Judging the works of Mr. Pascua, his form of art is that of installations – a very powerful form as it may portray to the audience in more sensory ways than just plain visual.
