Mission Statement
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the mission statement of Whole Foods and discuss whether or not it meets the criteria set forth in David and David’s article.
1. Customers; their target market is addressed but I believe it is restricted to only those who have already made the decision to eat healthy. It appears that in order for them to attract new cliental they must satisfy there present consumers and hope that they spread a good word about Whole Foods products.
2. Products and services; in this case Whole Foods offers both. They offer high quality organic products to the consumer at very competitive prices and they pride themselves on their customer service techniques. They ensure that their employees are very knowledgeable and can speak intelligently about the products. They also have a quality assurance team that’s sole purpose is to evaluate every product sold and that it meets their rigid quality standards.
3. Geographic Markets; Whole Foods is the worlds largest retailer of natural and organic foods. They have grown from one small shop in Texas and have now established themselves globally with 162 shops located throughout the U.S. and in the United Kingdom. Their future market areas will be dependent on what societies are willing to change to a healthier lifestyle and begin eating these natural foods..
4. Technology; it is my opinion that any business that has gone global can have only accomplished this by the use of up to date technology and marketing strategies. It appears that they have a good handle on advertising via the internet. Although I did not see it specifically addressed in the readings there is no way that this business could produce such a quality product with out maintaining up to date data bases and chemical make ups of food ingredients.
