In recent years the United States has had an impact on foreign and international relations by enforcing law and democratic rule. In most cases, this has had a positive result. There have been very few instances where the United States has stepped in and had a destructive impact on foreign affairs. As currently being one of the most powerful nations globally, there is an important responsibility to take in assuring some countries that the United States will aid in relief to others as well as eliminate any international threat that could arise to harm a massive amount of innocent civilians. Relief efforts should also include anything from assisting in the restoration of a broken nation due to natural disasters, economic debacles, to any threat upon allied nations that could impair American production or loss of revenue.
In a foreign nation, where genocide is taking place, the United States should step in and take preventive action to alleviate any individual or rebel group attempting to execute such an inhumane act of violence. Genocide has an effect internationally and is usually policed by international law. The United Nations adopted a resolution on the prevention and punishment of the crime of Genocide. “Article 1 of this law book states that the Contracting Parties confirm that genocide, whether committed in time of peace or in time of war, is a crime under international law which they undertake to prevent and to punish.” (Prevent Genocide International, 23 May 2011). With these laws already in place, the United States would abide by them and have the blueprint to execute a plan of action to eliminate this threat.
