I was 17 at the time I moved to America with my parents. Even though leaving my homeland was a very difficult thing to do I felt that this move could make the best of change to my parent’s life. They deserved this change because they wanted a rest from their old life. The tiny apartment my dad had rented for us was not quite cozy or clean, however, it was better than what we lived in back home. After we moved in, it was time for my parents and I to start the beginning of a better life. They were off to their new jobs as I was off to my new school.
The bus ride form home to school took nearly 20 minutes. I was not nervous about my first day of school at all. I knew if I greeted everyone with a kind smile, they would accept me as one of them. My tongue could not do much good for me because I did not know how to speak English as well as the other students. I was sure I was better off with my smiling technique.
As the day went on people approached me and I kept on smiling. If anyone asked me questions I would do my best to answer them with the proper use of English, but other than that I kept on smiling.
When school was done I waited for the bus to come. Seemed like waiting for the bus going to be a hassle. I was just sitting there and out of now where came a young handsome man, who looked like he went to my school. For the very first time, I felt nervous. He was sitting so close to me I could here him breath. Something inside of we wished he would start a conversation, but what would I say if he did? “Hello”, he said with his soft voice, “Was today your first day of school?” “Yes”, I replied trying to sound like I have spoken English my whole life. In the bus we sat next to each other and as he talked I would gaze at his blue eyes, and pretend it was the ocean we were to swim in together. He was so kind and gentle like a cotton ball fresh off its tree. He gave time to talk about my teachers, their grading systems, extracurricular...
