Neon Nights
As I watch the sunset behind the Ninety-One freeway the glare from the car window blinds my eyes. I looked down in discomfort and see my sweaty palms, I wasn’t surprised because I felt the moisture accumulate as I entered the car, but I found it odd because I almost never sweat from my palms. It must’ve been because I was nervous, my friends and I were two people over packed in a Corolla during evening traffic headed to Downtown Los Angeles. Countless situations played off in my head, what if a police officer pulled is over or we would rear end the car in front of us. The night would have been over like that. With so many risks being taken that night and the possibility of finishing the night alive or safe low. It was only after the night I realized I wasn’t nervous because of the danger I was in but I was anxious about the night because so much anticipation and hopes was built up to be the best night of my life that changed my life forever.
It was late September and I just started college a month before. A lot of my friends in high school have moved around the country. The friends I was going with to the rave were my friends outside of school all of them a year older. I looked at their faces and a tingly sensation was felt around my body. I felt like these are the friends I’m going to have for a long time. Stuck in traffic but near our destination we lowered the windows and turned off the music. We were about two miles away from the exit and despite all the noise and commotion of the total gridlock we felt a thump. As we got closer the thump became more consistent, “thump, thump, thump”. We were here, Nocturnal 2007 my first rave. Suddenly all my doubts and fears were gone and nothing but optimism and happiness filled my head. We hurried to the line, when we left the parking structure there was hundreds of people walking towards the entrance cheering, screaming, laughing, having the time of their life. My friend...
