Favorite Song
When asked to write an essay about my favorite song, I thought this would be easy. After several days of trying to think of a song, I decided this was not going to be as easy as I thought. However, I did manage and decided that “My life to live” by Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards had to be my favorite. I enjoy this song for many reasons, a few being the artist, it’s message, and the songs tempo.
Lars and the bastards were a street punk band. Their songs included subjects such as drinking, fighting, drugs, sex, prostitutes, gangs, and street life. The band was a side project band of Lars Frederiksen from rancid. The band was short lived only coming out with two CD’s but with those two CD’s they changed music forever. Lars the lead singer of the band has stated that there is “no intention of another Bastards Album.”
The reason I chose this song is because the message behind it. The song talks about the bands travels thru ought the world. Lars and the bastards did two world tours so they have a lot of stories. Some good, some bad, but no matter what happened to the band they all remained friends and stayed happy. With lyrics like “Crossed the ocean to a foreign land If you’ve been where I’ve been then you understand” this song has a great message.
The tempo that the band chose for the song couldn’t fit it better. it’s a mid-tempo beat. Not to fast and not to slow. With the help of Tim Armstrong also of Rancid the lyrics couldn’t fit the song any better. A simple drum beat with a bit of tambourine make for a great percussion. A bit of guitar and for a little bit more spice they throw in a Sitar with a solo.
I personally wish that I could one day write a song as good as this one. It just amazes me that this song never made it on to the radio. There is so many fans of this song and so many people that adore it. I never got a chance to see these guys because of the short lived career but if they ever...
