Society today looks as Post-Impressionism as a piece of art. Most of our popular artists weren’t recognized till after their deaths. Post- Impressionism is a type of art that is in a subject to a feeling, how vivid colors apply to the everyday, using thick brush strokes as emotion, and the ways paint falls onto the canvas, it explains their state of mind and others write their thoughts on paper.
Vincent Van Gogh is one of the greatest Post-Impressionist painters. He was born in Groot-Zundert, Holland in 1853. Van Gogh’s father was a pastor; he was raised in a religious household and had a close relationship with his brother Theo; who he had written letters throughout his existence. Van Gogh had two unlucky romances that didn’t last so long. He worked as a clerk in a bookstore, an art salesman, and a preacher. Van Gogh did not become a painter until later in life. At the age of twenty-seven he decided to lavish himself to art, which in time he created 1500 oil-paintings, watercolors, and drawings throughout his short career from 1873-1890. Van Gogh said, “And my aim in my life is to make pictures and drawings, as many and as well as I can; then, at the end of my life, I hope to pass away, looking back with love and tender regret, and thinking, 'Oh, the pictures I might have made!” During Van Gogh’s short life he only sold one painting entitled “The Red Vineyard” before taking his own life. He died at the age thirty-seven. Throughout his life Van Gogh was often penniless; he did not receive any real recognition of his work even among most of his peers during his time.
