Aboriginal Spirituality is the oldest culture in the world that remains to persist for the foreseeable future; for many generations as it has been for over 40,000 years. Aboriginal beliefs and Spirituality have an inexplicable connection to the land through important aspects of Aboriginal identity. A few of the aspects consist of the Dreaming, Totems and Ancestor Spirits which will be thoroughly examined throughout this essay.
The Dreaming is fundamentally considered as the essence of Aboriginal beliefs about creation and the spiritual and physical existence, it is also the central and deepest reality of the Aboriginal people.
How the Dreaming connects the beliefs and spirituality of Aboriginal people to the land, is through the establishing rules and knowledge that intertwines every important aspect of the Aboriginal identity. The land is what assists; territorial rights and boundaries, spirit beings, technology, totem plants and animals, rituals and ceremonies in which are all aspects that builds the foundation of an Aboriginal identity and their beliefs.
Each Aboriginal is intimately related to spirit ancestors through their totemic animals or plants associated with the spirit. A totem is believed to act as a guide and support for people in difficult situations or when in danger. Totems are exceptionally important in the everyday life of every Aboriginal individual. Totems determine what they could hunt and eat, their relationships, marriage partners, ceremonies and most importantly their close connection to the Dreaming and the land.
