Pablo Picasso was born on October 25, 1881 in Malaga, Spain. Picasso was a young prodigy, being that he was the son of an artist and teacher. Picasso passed the entrance exam for the Barcelona School of Fine Arts on his first try at the age of 14. In 1897, Picassos father and uncle decided to send him off on his own to the Royal Academy of San Fernando.
During Picassos life he had many different periods of art. The first one was the Blue Period which lasted from 1900 to 1904.
During this period he used different shades of blue in his subjects. The people in his paintings during this time usually displayed the depressing sides of life with starved looking bodies. In 1904, Picasso moved to Paris. There he developed the technique of cubism. The second period came right after known as the Rose Period. This period lasted from 1905-1906. During this time he used a pink tone, and depicted scenes from the circus. Picasso was married numerous times and had four children.
Being that Picasso was alive during World War II he was forced to remain in France. Picasso did not choose to change his style to match Nazi's and so he was not allowed to display any of his artwork. After Paris was liberated, Picasso met Francoise Gilot. The two became lovers and later had two children together. Gilot left Picasso though in 1953 because he was abusive. Because he was older he no longer attracted women and so this depressed Picasso. His feelings were depicted in his paintings during this time. As well as painting, Picasso had a small career in the film industry. In all his film appereances he played himself, and not a character. Picasso died on April 8, 1973 in France at the age of 92.
