Abstract

This paper will attempt to discuss the symptoms of bipolar disorder (also known as mood disorder), as compared to other types of (unipolar) depression and looks at the various treatments involved. It will state that bipolar disorder is largely genetic but is also environmentally based and can be effectively managed and treated so the patient can attempt to lead a full and productive life.
















You’re crazy! You need help! There is something wrong with you! How many times have we heard those remarks or even said those things to other people? What made us say those things or what made us think that there was something wrong with another person? When a person is “not in their right mind” what do we mean by that? What is “crazy?” For that matter, what is normal? The definition of what is normal and what is not means different things to different people, why? If a person is not acting “normally” then are they ill and if so, what type of illness(es) do they suffer from? We all know, at least we should all know that there are many different kinds of illnesses that perplex us as human beings. For whatever reason, many of them go untreated and often unnoticed. Among the most perplexing of all illnesses and one of the most prominent is mental illness. There are many types of mental illness that exist and often, new disorders are found all the time. However, one of the most severe is called, bipolar disorder.
