Othello tells about his own greatness and says that he has done good service for his country so he will be respected. Othello says, “Let him do his spite;/ My services which I have done the signiory/ Shall out-tounge his complaints” (I, ii, 17-19).

When Brabantio’s soldier were searching for Othello. Othello states that he must be respected because he has good reputation and is also the husband of Desdemona. Othello says, “Not I; I must be found/ My parts, my title and my perfect soul/ Shall manifest me rightly” (I, ii, 30-32).

Othello shows his honour by not fighting with Brabantio’s and solving the matter peacefully. Othello says,”Keep up your bright swords, for the dew will rust them. / Good signior, you shall more command with years/ Than with your weapons”(I, ii, 59-61).

The senators value Othello and hear what he says when he speaks. This is shown here by one of the senators. "Here comes Barbantio and the valiant Moor", (Act I scene 3, 47).

Othello is considered as honorable because he fights for the people of Venice in Cyprus. "'The Turk with a most mighty preparation makes for Cyprus. / Othello, the fortitude of the place is best known to you'' (I, iii, 219-221).


Othello makes a decision that will directly lead to his tragic downfall. Othello’s hamartia, naivety and his jealousy are the main reason for Othello’s tragic downfall. Othello says, “Now by heaven/ My blood begins my safer guide to rule. / And passion having my best judgement of collied / Assays to lead the way. Zounds, if I stir” (2, 3, 188-91).

Othello realizes that Iago fooled him. Othello feels that he has done a big mistake by trusting Iago. Othello says, “Are there no stones in heavens/ But what serves for the thunder? Precious villain” ( 5 , 2 , 232 33).
