Getting into "Gattaca"

Abstract: The debate in the world about the advantages, disadvantages and consequences of improving the human race through human intervention has been present in the politics, philosophical, moral, ethical, and theological fields for more than two thousand years. Today this debate is even stronger and it divides the international society. The problem now is that science has advanced faster than this debate and everyday science seems to be farter than it.
Gattaca (1997) is a science fiction dystopia movie from the director Andrew Niccole. The story of the movie is set up on a near future, (year 2015). The main character of the movie is Vincent Freeman, who is unlucky he was conceived in the seat back of an automobile and born in a natural way with some health problems as myopia and heart problems that bring him an expectative of life of just 30.2 years. “They used to say that a child conceived in love has a great chance of happiness. They do not say that anymore,” Vincent says. The world of Vincent is a perfect world, at least for the “valid” ones. Kids are created through a process of genetic engineering, improving all the qualities of the human beings as height, weight, strength, and specially avoiding any hereditary disease. This situation divide society in two social classes: the “valid” and the “in-valid”. The “valid” is the privileged class who gets the best jobs and occupied the highest position in the social pyramid. They are also the only ones who can travel into the space. The “in-valid” can not travel into the space and have to occupied the lowest positions in this society, like Vincent, who works as a janitor in Gattaca.
This is a cold world where the most important thing is the kind of genes people have and not the kind of people they are....
