Executive Summary
Clearly, 2006 has been a year of many challenges. Fuel prices rose dramatically before abating somewhat, causing consumers to shift away from large sport utility vehicles and pickups—where the Detroit Three make most of their money. Interest rates rose, squeezing consumers further and also greatly increasing the cost of discounted financing and leasing deals for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). And relentless competition and adjustment to new market realities led to devastating losses for the Detroit Three and resulted in a wave of supplier bankruptcies. Changing customer values, technological advancements, new competitors, global sourcing, regulatory mandates and industry restructuring are causing unprecedented change and challenge in the automotive industry. Managing change, with its uncertainty, could prove to be a formidable task. An error in judgment, insufficient information, or improper analysis could cost an automotive company tens of millions of dollars.






The auto industry is the one of the biggest and most prosperous industry in the world. It affects both the economy and the cultures of the world. The United States and world economies have grown to be reliant on the mobility that automobiles, trucks, and buses give us. Because of the industry it has opened a wider area for business and commerce. These corporations are regularly international. The automobile industry is America's largest manufacturing industry.
Automobiles offer easier and faster transportation therefore United States and world economies have become dependent on their mobility. The mobility allowed distant populace to interrelate, which improved commerce. The transportation of goods to consumers and consumers to goods has become an industry also. The automobile industry continues to be an important source of employment and transportation for millions of people worldwide.
