Less Is Moore
“We like non fiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in a time where we have fictitious election results that elect a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. Whether it is fictition of duct tape or the fictition of orange alerts, we are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush! Shame on you!,” says Michael Moore. This quote was the start of a very controversial issue between critics, the public, and himself. After this speech was made at the Oscars, people looked into his documentaries and discovered false information. Now the question is if he should keep the Oscar or have it be taken away. Documentaries have to abide by many requirements, one of which is that documentaries may not contain any false information, but personal views are allowed. Although Michael Moore’s documentaries are questionable, he is a very successful documentarian with strong views and opinions about the world around him.
Michael Moore is a documentary film maker. He is known world wide for his famous documentaries such as, Bowling for Columbine, Roger & Me, and Fahrenheit 911. Viewers either love his work, or hate it. Critics that critique his work often feel that his documentaries are somewhat fiction, all Michael Moore is doing is essentially trying to persuade everyone that his information that he collects is true, therefore causing the critics to have a biased opinion. Moore is trying to defend himself and his facts by stating things like, “I have three or four fact-checkers and a lawyer that goes through everything” (Phillips). Michael Moore told critics that he too believed that fiction is not allowed in documentaries. This means that he is trying to defend his side to prove that he agrees with the critics and wants to show that he does not include fiction in his documentaries.
