With a gift of $10,000 I have choose to invest in the Stock Market. As I begun investing I started by investing equally in Foot Locker(FL), Con. Edison(ED), and ExpressJet Holdings(XJT) Inc. The reason I have invested in Foot Locker is because the new Michael Jordan shoes were recently released. Con. Edison because I figured since it is summer more people would spend money on electricity for Air Conditioners. Lastly, I also tried experimenting with a high volume, low cost stock such as XJT.
My investment plan was to separate Ten thousand equally between three companies, but I was most positive that Foot Locker would do best I put the extra thousand into it, since 10 isn’t divisible by 3. $3,994.3 to Footlocker, $3,008 to XJT and $2,994 to Con. Ed. On the 26th of May FL was 13.54 a share, XJT was 1.88 a share, and Con Ed. was 41.09. So evidently it equally to 295 shares of FL, 1600 Shares of XJT, and 73 shares of ED.
Throughout the project I have tracked and record all my data. The main sources I used were Yahoo Finance and nyse.com. NYSE showed me, and was helpful when I needed the volume, most active chart, and most gains. As which Yahoo clearly shows the price of the last trade and easier to find.
The investments I made I’m pretty much happy with. There might have been better companies to put my money in, but the ones I have invested in I haven’t lost any money in. All the companies I have invested in were better short term then long term investments. This is because they go up for a few days and back down the next. This is why I would sell all these companies within five days max of buying them. I would sell the stocks when I see them minutes after they hit the climax for the day. For foot locker as soon as it went over $14 a share I wouldn’t have sold it for cheaper, same thing for XJT at $2 a share.
