Underage drinking has become one of the largest social issues among young people in America today. More and more teens are consuming alcohol year by year. Although more than half of high schoolers drink on a regular basis, the problem is that they are not aware of how dangerous alcohol can actually be. Alcohol can take a good situation and turn it into a bad situation in a matter of minutes. The reality is that alcohol is often the cause of many problems among these teenagers. Things such as grades, attitude, social life, relationships and more can be dramatically affected. Simply put, alcohol ruins many young people’s lives, and is now one of the most serious problems teens face.
Drinking and driving is one large problem often linked with teenage drinking. Fatal alcohol related crashes make up twenty-five percent of all crashes included among young drivers. It is one of the most frequent killers of teens in America. Each year, almost two thousand people under the age of twenty-one years died in car crashes in which underage drinking is involved. The nation has found ways to try to eliminate this problem. Every state now has strict DUI penalties in place to prevent people from drinking and driving. Driving under the influence is not only a danger to the driver, but it is also a danger to the drivers around them, or even pedestrians. Drunk drivers are treacherous on the road and can easily hurt themselves or someone completely innocent.
Alcohol abuse is extremely harmful to ones body, especially to a teenager. Young people should know that alcohol abuse not only leads to severe damage to their body, but can often lead to death as well. Alcohol-induced liver disease is a major cause of illness and death in the United States. Sometimes it is reversible, others not. Heavy drinking has long been associated with other liver problems, such as cirrhosis. Cirrhosis of the liver is one of the leading causes of death among chronic alcoholics. Alcoholic...
