The Introduction of a Consumer Market
Today’s world is false. There are very few real interactions that make up our daily lives. Our interactions have been limited by new technologies, many of which have come over the past century. Our heroes are make belief and our dreams do little to actually quench our thirst for happiness. Yet the public has grown oblivious to this fact, enamored by the latest phone or the newest shoes, they seem content to become part of this slumber. But this doesn’t change the fact that very little of our lives is an actual genuine moment that has been untouched by consumerism. Consumerism has been a direct byproduct of growing technologies. The introduction of Film and even music like Rock and Roll help give a picture of this markets and how it has progressed.

There are few innovations that have contributed as much to the development of mass culture as film has. Film has been one of the most important technological advances simply for its cultural impact. With the introduction of film in the early 20th century there was a wild new world that opened up to the American public, a world that told people everything they needed to know about living their lives.

Films started as simple picture shows with no sound in Vaudevilles. From there they were moved to nickelodeons where for a nickel a piece you could enjoy a picture show. However, with the introduction of this new entertainment form came very few restrictions. Early on films began to receive a lot of criticism from the upper class as concerns over the films morality began to come into question. Even then, the cultural possibility of a medium like film was widely understood. Film allowed the public to gain a new access to messages and scenes that were influencing them with no sort of preventative measure and the messages in films were much more capable of...
