In my trip to the San Jose Museum of Art, I got to see many amazing art works. In all of the art pieces, I was fascinated by “Dawnscape” of Louise Nevelson. Dawnscape was created in 1978 with the technique of cast paper pulp.
Dawnscape consists of a total of twenty six squares and rectangles. Each square or rectangle describes a different thing. The first square on the upper left is water, or maybe some kind of seaweed or coral. Below that square is a combination of two rectangles and a small square. The larger rectangle which situates on the right simply contains a solid rectangle; the smaller one on the left seems to be a crescent moon stand next to a rectangle; and the little square underneath the small rectangle seems to be a knife cutting some food. Under that combination is a square that describes a door and what might be the key to open the door. The last square on that first column on the left looks like fire, or it can also be a meteor falling down from the sky. On the second column, there are two rectangles side by side which stands a little higher than the top square of the first column. The one on the left is simply a coin and the one on the right is a medal. Underneath the two rectangles is a square that describes a creature, maybe a wolf, hiding and ready to attack its victim. The next rectangle below looks like it contains a half opened gift box with a toy car inside. Right under that rectangle is a square with an image of two chairs with a knife in front of each. Then on the bottom of that column are two more rectangles: the one on the left is a crack on the wall, and the one on the right is another coin. The top square of the middle column is a cloud floating over a mountain top or a “chat box” which is usually used to describe what a person is thinking or talking about in comic books.
