Have you ever had that bubbling feeling deep down inside you? A feeling of something strange that’s definitely not anger, or happiness but something in between a feeling of dread that makes your stomach churn like a huge monster will burst out of your gut. I refer to the feeling of jealousy, the green eyed monster hidden inside everyone. This essay is going to analyze the correlation of jealousy between Othello and three children’s books. The three pieces of literature being reviewed will be Cinderella, Snow White, and Peter Pan.
Cinderella is a story where jealousy runs rampant throughout. An example of jealousy is“the stepmother did not like Cinderella”, and refused Elli (Cinderella), the only thing that ever meant anything to her, attending the Princes ball. Leading up to the big event “they always made fun of Cinderella” relentlessly. That night when the sisters had gone to the ball, “Cinderella cried in despair”. Her Fairy Godmother appeared and vowed to assist Cinderella in attending the ball. Jealousy is the most apparent in this part of the story. Like Iago, Elli’s family were masters of deceit and in the end both Iago and Cinderella’s family were punished for there actions.
Snow White’s father remarried after his wife died during child birth, the green eyed monster is demonstrated through the evil step mother. In the story of Snow White, the step mother was extremely beautiful, but very vain, she also possessed supernatural powers. A magical mirror she owned answered all questions, she asked. The mirror was activated by saying "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is fairest of them all?" and to which the mirror would always reply to her “Tis you". After Snow White became seven years of age (which is the official age where a girl becomes a maiden) the step mother asked the mirror, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is fairest of them all?" it responded "Queen, you are full fair, 'tis true, but Snow White is fairer than you."
