Facebook started out as a way for like minded college students to share there life experiences and stay in touch. Mark Zuckerberg a Harvard student at the time , founded the networking site in February of 2004, it was origionally called the "facemash". There are currently 620 million active users in the world, with the United States coming in first place at 155.2 million current users of facebook.
Initially when facebook started out, it was intended for college and university students therefor requiring a valid college email address to access the network. Over the years however, facebook has become more lenient with their criteria, only requiring users to be over the age of 13 with an email address . Currently the site has an age range of 13-70. Along with college students , you can now find high school students and alumni, mothers and fathers, grandparents etc.. Once you have joined facebook and made an account, you have to make a profile, which consists of having the to name location of residency, your hometown, birthdate, education information, work information, gender, sexual orientation, uploading pictures and videos and listing your interests.
There are many different uses for the network. Many companies use facebook as an opportunity to advertise, and also offer special deals and discounts to their "friends". Some other people use applications offered, such as the family tree application, which allows you to track down distant relatives, that also have facebook and add them to your online family tree. Many people also utilize the games the network has to offer, such as faqrmville. This game consists of creating your own online virtual wourld where you care for, breed, sell and trade your own livestock, all while maintaining a farm. It has become one of the most popular games on the site. Then you have your "creepers".
