Alternative Fuel Sources

Submitted by Kaitielady on June 3, 2008

The gas prices are increasing more and more each day. People can not afford to fill up their gas tanks at $3.50 per gallon. Researchers say that the gas prices probably will get up to $4.00 over the summer, and the summer is the time when everyone is traveling.
Scientist and researchers have found multiple alternate fuel sources, but the government is not spending the money on advancing these findings. One alternate fuel is the electric car; it is run solely on electric. It is environmentally friendly, because it causes less pollution. It is hard to tell the difference between a gas powered car and a electric powered car unless you look closely. Under the gas cap there is actually a plug that you can plug in the charger to charge the battery in the car. Under the hood there is a large battery, and a lot of “High Voltage” stickers everywhere.
Another option is the hybrid car. It has an electric battery that connects to the gas powered engine and helps provide energy for the car instead of constant gas, and the gas that you put in it, can last longer. These hybrid cars could get forty to fifty miles to the gallon, where a regular car might get twenty miles to the gallon. Plus it also produces a lot less pollution. In a hybrid car, the engine is a lot smaller, so it is less weight and it uses less energy when accelerating, than a normal gas powered car. Whenever you use the break, you are using energy. In a hybrid car, the car can capture some of that energy and store it back into the battery, for use later. You are also able to turn off the gas engine, when you want to save energy. The tires on hybrid cars cause about half of the amount of drag as the tires on a conventional gas powered car.
A recent discovery, on a new way to power cars, is the Air-powered cars. It runs on compressed air. It produces zero pollution, and is economically friendly. These cars do require electricity in order for the air to be compressed inside the...
