Ancient Discoveries

There were many contributions and discoveries from different civilizations that influenced the bible. Three of the main discoveries were discovered in Israel, Egypt, and Babylonia. Those discoveries were the Dead Sea Scrolls, The Rosetta Stone, and The Tower of Babel.

Israel is a country very involved in the writing of the bible probably the main thing that was found by Israel was the Dead Sea Scrolls. These scrolls help date back to the earliest translations of the bible. The scrolls were found by Professor E. L. Sukenik on November 27, 1947. From studying and observing these scrolls, it was possible for archaeologists to translate the Hebrew language. The scrolls helped about the different manuscript translations that included knowledge's of scribal practices. Without these scrolls it would be near impossible to translate the scriptures as well as we did.

In the land of Egypt there was an ancient stone written before the Ptolemaic era (that is before about 332 BC), which decrees in hieroglyphs such as this were usually set up by the king. The Rosetta Stone shows how much things had changed from Pharaonic times that the priests, the only people who had kept the knowledge of writing hieroglyphs, were now issuing such decrees. The hieroglyphic language was dead for thousands of years. Modern day humans could not figure out what these strange markings in Egyptian temples meant. The Rosetta Stone revealed what all of these markings meant by translating the hieroglyphs into the Roman language.

The Bible tells the story of the tower of Babel in the Babylonian civilization and how the language of mankind was confused there. Archaeologists have found that the inhabitants of ancient Mesopotamia had a popular habit of building towers called ziggurats almost every city of importance having at least one. The temple Tower of Babylon was the highest and largest of all, being 91 meters high and built in seven stages....
