Hitler’s Rise to Power and his Ability to Maintain it.

On the morning of the 30th of January 1933, in Hindenburg's office, Adolf Hitler was sworn in as the Chancellor of Germany. It can be said that Hitler could not have gained power in any other country than Germany. Germany’s long-term conditions allowed Hitler’s ideologies to appear to be attractive alternatives. The First Great War left the German people with feelings of resentment towards the Treaty of Versailles and eager to change the restrictions it opposed on Germany. The German government, the Weimar Republic did little to rebuild Germany as a nation. The Weimar Republic was extremely weak and ineffective, allowing Hitler to exploit it through propaganda. The economic struggle caused by The Wall Street Crash combined with Germany’s ineffective government left German citizens open to any ideology that could offer a solution, even the extreme ideologies of Nazism seemed to be appealing. Germany’s situation combined with Hitler’s ability to capture his audience as a unique master of rhetoric allowed Hitler to gain power in Germany. Once Hitler was successful in obtaining power in Germany, he immediately began to secure his power by eliminating other government parties, forming a dictatorship under Nazi rule.
The years after World War One, left the German people with strong feelings of resentment and disappointment. When the Treaty of Versailles was presented to the Germans just weeks before the date it had to be signed, the Germans were left with very few options. David Lloyd George of Great Britain, Clemenceau of France and Woodrow Wilson of the United States were all present at Versailles Palace to negotiate the terms of the peace treaty, but no representative was present on Germany’s behalf.
