USA PATRIOT ACT 1
The USA Patriot Act,actually named the Uniting and Strengthening America by
Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act, was created to
deter and punish terrorist acts in the United State and around the world, to enhance law
enforcement investigatory tools, and for other purposes. It was passed by President Bush in
October of 2001. The USA Patriot Act gave the FBI and other agencies more power to
investigate, created a Counterterrorism Fund, and made it illegal to aid and/or harbor terrorists.
The Act was a good one to pass, and it has many good ideas and policies, but the Act contains
several policies that are unconstitutional due to the rights of the First Amendment.

There are several positive consequences to the USA Patriot Act. There is the sneak and
peek operations in the Act. That is where searches are conducted without notifying the subject of
the investigation. If the individual has nothing to hide then these operations should not be an
issue at all. In Sec.1005, the first responders act, was allowed up to 25 million dollar grants to be
appropriated each year for state level terrorism prevention and anti-terrorism trainings. This is
great that all individuals have or could have been trained for free to learn about anti-terrorism
and terrorism prevention if it was taken advantage of. Another good consequence of the USA
Patriot Act is the limitation on issuance of hazmat licenses, in section 1012. This states, that
before you can get a hazmat license you must have a background check and demonstrate that he
or she is fit to handle the materials. This particular section is good...
