Global Warming
In Canada
Most people may not even know what global warming is, or have any idea how much of a severe roll it plays on our society and economy. I will start by defining what '' Global Warming '' is. Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation. Since Global Warming is a huge topic, I've decided to narrow it down to '' Global Warming In Canada ''. For many years now, human caused climate change has been viewed as a large and urgent problem. Humans are responsible for most of the latest global warming issues. Carbon dioxide and other air pollution that is collecting in the atmosphere, trapping the sun's heat and causing the planet to warm up. When the earth begins to heat up these are some of the issues which are occurring not only inside Canada, but the rest of the world some of which are melting ice caps, rising sea levels, disrupted ocean currents, drier droughts, more frequent floods and hurricanes, wider spread of tropical diseases, food shortages and death.
Melting ice caps within Canada is a huge problem, Canada's Arctic region is covered by approximately 150,000 square kilometres (57,660 square miles) of land ice. < http://www.nasa.gov/centers/langley/science/Canada_Ice.html >. If these ice caps begin to melt, it could mean increases in ocean water level, which will then cause some massive flooding to occur throughout Canada, but will hit some Atlantic provinces fairly hard. Once the icecaps begin to melt this is where the chain of events will begin to hurt Canada. The increasing frequency and severity of heat waves may lead to an increase in heat stress and death, especially among the very young, the elderly and the ill. A number of indirect impacts are also expected on human health, including an increasing incidence of respiratory disorders, infectious diseases, and allergy problems....
