Hamlet is the most complex character within William Shakespeare's work. Hamlet is Exceptionally intelligent, trustworthy, honest, hard working, and fair but what makes hamlet more complex is his barbaric quality depicted throughout the play. Every single characteristic listed, even barbaric, are all qualities I believe people would want within a king.
There cannot be a strong country without a strong leader and a king is considered a symbol of his land. Claudius, despite the bloody way he gained power may have been considered as an alright king. Claudius did in fact keep Fortinbras from taking over his kingdom for some time but his obsession for power ruined the kingdom. Despite being king he is also a murderer, liar, manipulative and a villain. He murder his own brother, stole his nephews thrown, and married his sister in law. One quality that Claudius is lacking greatly that a king need from his people to strive is respect. Claudius can be blamed for all the deaths in the last act, this includes but is not limited to; Hamlet, Laertes,Queen Gertrude, Rosencrantz, Guilenstern, and also his own death. It takes a man with qualities such as Hamlets to run a kingdom like Denmark.
So now the question is if Hamlet wasn't killed, would he have made a good king or failed like the conniving Claudius? Like I mentioned above hamlets qualities such as intelligence, honesty, hard working and barbaric would have made him a good king. You may be thinking how would having barbaric as a quality make you a good king and it's a simple questions to answer. Hamlet shows this quality throughout the play like when he tells Ophelia to go to a nunnery with the underlining meaning of a whore house but even more so when he kills...
