From the report made by Hu Jintao, the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, in the Seventeenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), China’s economy has been rapidly developing, and he predicted that China will continue to power the engine of economic growth by quadrupling the per capita value of the 2000 gross domestic product (GDP) by 2020. That’s indeed a piece of cheerful news, but at the same time, the resources are decreasing in an incredible speed.
For example, fresh water, which be seem as if always available, is in fact rather limited. Because most of it has been polluted by effluents. And a large area of land in western China has been corroding by deserts little by little. And numerous trees have been cut down so that our forest resource become less and less.
So what is the cause of these upset scenes? The need of economic development. Many people do all kinds of harms to the environment in order to earn money. For instance, Lumbermen cut down the rare trees to make different kinds of valuable furniture, which can be sold in a high price in the market. It is beneficial for our economic development; however, the forest resource is being destroyed.
In fact, nature has her limits. When we take too many resources from her, she will do revenges to us. Flood and desertification are the punishments for cutting down trees willingly. Red tide is the result of pollution of water. If human beings continually to seize resources from nature, our economic development will not be perennial.
Therefore, the only way to solve this problem is that we should change our ways of using nature resources. Instead of using it blindly, we should use the nature resources plannedly as well as reasonably, by which can also accelerate our economic development. Only if we got along well with the nature, can we power the engine of economic growth.
