Commitment A life time relationship changes people’s way of thinking enormously. The fear of making a commitment usually becomes the cause of most break ups in society today. A committed relationship too many people could involve a variety of different qualities. Commitment in a relationship is something most people seem to encounter during the end of their high school years. This type of relationship is important for a person to experience at some point in their life. Committed relationships serve as a building block in the development of one’s mind. The important qualities in a relationship can vary from person to person. The main key in a relationship is trust. In order for someone to be fully committed they have to learn to trust one another. Without having a trusting relationship, a couple really has no commitment at all. In the Sojourner, Mr. and Mrs. Bailey are trusting of one another to have her ex-husband come and visit them at their home. Mr. Bailey does not question his wife at all on why her ex-husband wants to visit. A committed relationship involves being confident about yourself and your relationship. Having this kind of relationship can build one’s own self-confidence towards themselves. Confidence is important to a person’s self-esteem. A relationship like this also enables the opportunity for a person to connect physically and emotionally with a person. Another important quality is being faithful to your partner. If your partner is not faithful this soon leads to lieing and everything else that seems to come along with cheating. In the short story, A Respectable Woman, Mrs. Baroda stays true to her husband, even though she finds herself attracted to his friend, Mr. Gouvernail. The attraction Mrs. Baroda feels towards Mr. Gouvernail leads to nothing else, because she is faithful and a respectable woman. The strength of a relationship depends
