Community Corrections Paper Community Corrections Paper CJS/230 October, 28th 2011 “Those small relatively inexpensive changes in the right places can do much to increase the likelihood of successful community corrections.” Community Corrections Abstract In this paper, I will be discussing how community correction has an effect on society. I will also give you my hypothesis about community correction and its effectiveness in the criminal justice system. I want to describe prison system in other countries, and also show you how other nations practice imprisonment in their countries. I hope this paper will give you much in insight on Community Corrections. Community Correction also known as probation or
This is a career that I will continue to contribute to the community and the people in many ways and also be compensated. The benefits that I will receive are beyond pay, I have always helped with volunteering as a youth counselor. Helping out teens to make the right choices in life as well as educating them about drugs, sex, and crime. Helping the community with crime watch meetings and even checking in on the elders in the community to make sure their homes are secure from being targeted for break-ins. For the most part I would have to say my childhood experience is what helped me in decide to go forward with this career.
I was able to communicate via the telephone in a professional manner and tone being very careful not to scare the other person on the other end when situations were good or bad. I also consider myself to be fare firm and consistent in the correctional field. My supervisors always said “If you want it done correctly and with no incident send Heasley”. They always used me as an example to new hires and I was given the opportunity to mold the new correctional officers into model employ’s. I guess that is why I was employed for almost 13 years, I guess you can say I loved my Job and If it wasn’t for a Injury that side lined my career I would still be advancing within the
(2012). Curriculum and methods for early childhood educators. San Diego, CA: Bridgepoint Education DAP-What DAP means to me is when a teacher bases their lesson plan/curriculum on sound knowledge of a child’s development and learning process while also taking into account individual differences and needs. Cognitive- In the block area I have seen a great amount of cognitive development. Cognitive is how children view the world or how they see things.
The order was quickly followed by the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, which required employers with federal grants to keep their businesses drug-free. The act led to widespread drug testing in the private industry and, in a decade, the rate of drug testing applicants among large employers increased almost four fold, from 21 percent in 1987 to 81 percent in 1996 (Wessler, 2012). Large to small size companies use drug testing as a condition of employment. After initial testing, employees are added to a random testing program that allows for unannounced
The IT Department introduced the innovation to the commissioner’s court for voting and as an effort to reduce cost to taxpayers. AIS unbeneficial acts from the beginning were causing chaos in the jail releases for offenders and other glitches and disruptions in the courts. The IT Department is still trying to repair some glitches behind the scenes and Dallas County is still overcoming the impact of the labor and technical support costs (Krause,
Thirdly, rehabilitation; the use of effective counselling and educational programmes help offenders reform themselves. Finally, deterrence; the purpose here is to deter the rest of the population from committing crime and to also to prevent recidivism (AQA psychology B A2, Sarah Ladbrook). There is strong evidence to suggest that only two out of the four aims work; prisons have an invaluable place in society in terms of punishment of offenders and protection of society but they currently fail in terms of deterrent and rehabilitation. There is a lot of evidence to show that deterrence and rehabilitation does not work, home office figures on recidivism show that 70% of criminals who receive custodial sentences go on to reoffend within two years of release (Homeoffice.gov.uk). This suggests that prison is not the worst place to be, a lot of the prisoners can not provide themselves with the life prison can, the BBC made a series on life inside prison and the reporter Victoria Hicks reported that prison life is “not that bad”.
• The treatment provision in this bill is extremely important – studies show a large percentage of those incarcerated who need drug treatment do not receive such services. (2) Receiving drug treatment is an important component of staying crime and drug free once an individual has been released from prison or jail.” Hopefully in the near future things will change and people will be sentenced based on the crime and their part in it instead of mandatory sentencing which does not care about the
I was fortunate to have an opportunity to work with great co-workers and helping children from disadvantage backgrounds that are in need of a mentor and a voice to help them in court and school. My first interview with the agency occurred two years ago when I was seeking an opportunity to volunteer to help others. I was greeted with great gratitude by the staff mainly composed of women from various racial backgrounds. My job title in this agency is assistant to office staff and volunteer to children in foster care system. The agency is dedicated to find a volunteer age twenty-one and older with a reliable transportation and no criminal background, for children in the foster system.
Probation is the first and most popular form of rehabilitation in the community. All other forms of rehabilitation, ultimately branch off from probation. Probation is defined as “the release of a convicted offender under conditions imposed by a court for a specified period, during which time that court retains authority to modify those conditions or to resentence the offender if he or she violates those conditions” (Alarid, 2013). The purpose of probation is to assist in reducing crime among offenders in the community ("American Probation and Parole Association", 2009). The mission of probation is to protect the public interest and safety by reducing the incidence and impact of crime.
