1.08 Varying Activity Preferences Essay Everyone participates in physical activities, whether it's competitive swimming or just a pick-up game of basketball. And, because there are so many to choose from, not everyone plays the same way. Age and gender are major factors in activity people may choose to do. But, what about cultural differences? I have found that a person's culture has an impact on which physical activities individuals participate in to stay healthy. The first person I interviewed was of seventeen year old and very active. This person is African-American and plays lacrosse. They chose lacrosse because it was a different and new sport, and they liked the social aspect of it as well. This first person enjoyed playing a sport that interacted with other people, one you could make friendships in while becoming healthy together. The second person I interviewed was 28 female. This person is white and very active, they participate in yoga. They like the strength and flexibility it gives them. This person likes the alone time to relax and clear their mind. Choosing to participate in a activity by themselves, as opposed to a team sport or activity. The third person I interview was 48 years old man, and of Hispanic dissent. This person cycles, they are very active and enjoys cycling in a group. They chose to cycle because it is easier for someone of an older age, and this person enjoys the social interaction. They have made friendships be because of it, and used to play other team sports, like basketball. In conclusion, different people have different interests. I have found that a person’s culture has an impact on which physical activities individuals participate in to stay healthy.
